Nutritional Values

This blend is entirely plant-based and free from salt if you omit the optional pinch. Oregano and thyme are rich in antioxidants; rosemary contains rosmarinic acid, linked to anti-inflammatory properties; basil and marjoram add polyphenols. Because the seasoning is used in small quantities, its nutritional contribution per serving is modest, but building meals around generous amounts of dried herbs is an easy way to add phytonutrients without extra calories or sodium. No animal ingredients are present, and none needed replacing — this recipe is plant-based as it stands.

Classic Italian Herb Seasoning

A fragrant, sun-drenched blend of dried Mediterranean herbs that brings the warmth of an Italian kitchen to everything it touches — from pasta sauces and roasted vegetables to focaccia and marinades. Deep green and aromatic, it takes minutes to assemble and keeps for months. One jar does the work of five.

Ingredients
[ ] 2 tbsp dried oregano
[ ] 2 tbsp dried basil
[ ] 1 tbsp dried thyme
[ ] 1 tbsp dried marjoram
[ ] 1 tbsp dried rosemary
[ ] 1 tsp dried sage (optional)
[ ] 1 tsp dried parsley (optional)
[ ] ¼ tsp fine sea salt (optional)

Instructions
[ ] 1. Measure out 2 tbsp dried oregano, 2 tbsp dried basil, 1 tbsp dried thyme, 1 tbsp dried marjoram, and 1 tbsp dried rosemary into a small mixing bowl.
[ ] 2. If using them, add 1 tsp dried sage, 1 tsp dried parsley, and ¼ tsp fine sea salt to the bowl.
[ ] 3. Stir everything together until the herbs are evenly combined and the blend looks uniformly green throughout.
[ ] 4. If the rosemary pieces are coarse and needle-like, briefly crush the mixture between your palms or use a pestle and mortar to give a finer, more even texture.
[ ] 5. Taste a small pinch and adjust the balance if you wish — a little more oregano sharpens it, more basil softens it, more thyme adds earthiness.
[ ] 6. Transfer the blend to a clean, dry, airtight jar or tin and seal tightly.
[ ] 7. Store in a cool, dark place such as a kitchen cupboard away from the hob.
[ ] 8. The mix keeps well for up to 6 months; the aroma is strongest in the first 3 months.
[ ] 9. To use, add 1–2 tsp to season a pasta sauce, pizza base, soup, or stew for 2–4 people, or rub 1 tbsp over vegetables, tofu, or legumes before roasting.

A pure blend of whole dried herbs with no oil, no sugar, and barely any sodium — as wholesome as a seasoning gets. It's a flavour tool, not a meal, so use it generously over roasted vegetables, legumes, or pasta sauces to add depth without any nutritional downside.
