Privacy policy
Who we are
CuisineSavvy (cuisinesavvy.com) is run by Mark Monitor, 10 Burton St, London WC1H 9AQ. We are the controller of the personal data described here, under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).
Questions or requests about your data: CuisineSavvy@gmail.com.
What we collect and why
- Newsletter: your email address, if you subscribe, and the kitchen you got in our kitchen quiz if you chose to share it, so the newsletter can suit it. We send one email to confirm the address before you are subscribed, and we use it only to send the newsletter. Lawful basis: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time with the unsubscribe link in every email.
- Account: your email address, username, the plans and favourites you save, and the kitchen you got in our kitchen quiz, if you create an account. Lawful basis: to provide the service you asked for.
- Kitchen quiz: your answers, including anything you tell us about your household, stay in your browser and are not sent to us. Only the kitchen you got is saved, and only to your account or with a sign-up you ask for.
- Sign-up protection: when you sign up by email, Cloudflare Turnstile checks that the form is being used by a person, and we keep scrambled (hashed) copies of your IP address and email address for up to two days, to limit how many emails can be sent. Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in preventing abuse of the sign-up forms.
- Recipe suggestions: the email address and details you give when you suggest a recipe, used to attribute and follow up on it. Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in running the suggestion service.
- Analytics: which pages are viewed, roughly where from and on what kind of device, only if you allow analytics cookies. Lawful basis: your consent.
- Server logs: technical records (such as IP address and time of request) kept by our hosting provider to run and secure the site. Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in keeping the site working and safe.
We do not sell your data, use it for advertising, or make automated decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects.
How long we keep it
- Newsletter: until you unsubscribe.
- Unconfirmed sign-ups: the confirmation link expires after 24 hours.
- Sign-up protection: hashed IP and email address records, up to two days.
- Account and saved plans: until you delete your account or ask us to.
- Recipe suggestions: as long as the suggestion or the recipe made from it is live.
- Analytics: 14 months, then deleted by Google.
- Server logs: for a short period needed for security and troubleshooting.
Your rights
You can ask us to give you a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, or give it to you in a portable format. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time.
To use any of these rights, email CuisineSavvy@gmail.com. We will reply within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk, 0303 123 1113). We would appreciate the chance to put it right first.
Children
The site is not aimed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.
